Georg Fischer GmbH orders aluminium melting furnace from Hertwich Engineering

Georg Fischer GmbH from Altenmarkt, Austria, has placed an order with Hertwich Engineering for an Ecomelt multi-chamber melting furnace. The furnace is to be used for melting and holding of aluminium. The production capacity of the multi-chamber furnace amounts to 90 tons of aluminium melt per day.

Specifications of the multi-chamber melting furnace

The multi-chamber melting furnace operates with scrap preheating and uses the immersion melting process, thereby reducing the metal loss to less than 0.5 %. It is particularly suitable for melting aluminium ingots and thin-walled revert scrap – even with adhering coolants and lubricants from machining. The Ecomelt multi-chamber melting furnaces are characterized by high metal yield, low energy consumption and reduced emissions.

Consumption rates

With less than 550 kWh/t, the heating energy consumption at nominal load is far below that of other plants in the market, the electric energy consumption is less than 30 kWh/t. The furnace achieves a melting rate of up to 4.5 tons aluminium per hour, its melt content is up to 25 tons.

Challenges of the project

Due to the extremely limited space in the existing casthouse, the design of the new melting furnace had to be specially adapted by Hertwich to the local conditions. The new multi-chamber melting furnace plant is scheduled to start production in the 4th quarter of 2015.
